The dissertation "Czynniki ochrony konsumentów na rynku kredytów mieszkaniowych".

The subject of Dr Marta Paduszyńska’s thesis concerned key aspects of consumer protection in the dynamically developing mortgage market – an area extremely important for the protection of citizens’ interests and the stability of the financial system.

Consumer protection in the financial sector is a multi-faceted issue. The main objective of the dissertation is to identify and assess the significance of factors identifying consumer protection within the areas of bank practices on the housing loan market. The research hypothesis was positively verified that among the factors identifying consumer protection on the housing loan market (availability of information and professional and honest service, ensuring the possibility of resolving disputes and maintaining data security, transparency/understandability of information, ethical advertising), the availability of information and professional and honest service are the most important ones. Based on the value of the explained variance, which is the basic approach in the evaluation of the results of exploratory factor analysis, it was observed that the first factor, i.e. availability of information and professional and honest service, explains the most among the factors described above, i.e. over 35% of the variance of the variables subjected to the analysis. Moreover, the results obtained make it possible to conclude that a measurement scale was created that can be applied as a tool in the scope of measuring consumer protection on the banking products market. Data collected using an original research questionnaire on a sample of nearly 1,000 consumers in Poland with a mortgage-backed housing loan constituted the basis of the empirical study. Factor analysis was used as the main research method to identify consumer protection factors.
